Markree Castle, the Cooper family home for over 370 years has been lovingly restored by the current owner Charles Cooper, and his wife Mary. Markree Castle is now one of the finest country house hotels in Ireland. The castle is set in a wonderfully secluded 500 acre estate.  Peace, tranquility and relaxation combined with good food, makes a stay at Markree Castle a treasured experience.

Markree is the only castle hotel in Sligo.  Markree is one of the longest estabilshed hotels in Sligo. The castles well appointed bedrooms, coupled with a cosy authentic olde world atmosphere will make your stay an unforgettable experience.

Food & Beverage

At the Knockmuldowney Restaurant our chefs combine world tastes with the very best in local produce to create a menu of gastronomic delights that will tempt your every tastebud. A speciality of the Castle is Woodcock and wild fallow venison taken locally from the Markree estate. Dinner is served in the romantic Louis XIV dining room, where tables can be reserved for residents. Non-residents are always welcome to Markree Castle. The Castle restaurant is a perfect evening out for an intimate meal for two or indeed for a larger party.

Area Information

Markree Castle in Collooney is an ideal base to explore the Sligo countryside. Day trips into neighbouring counties of Mayo, Donegal and Leitrim offer a huge range of attractions and activities.
Popular local activities include a visit to Queen Maeve’s grave on the top of Knocknarea, or a visit to historical Lissadell House. A stroll on the beach in Strandhill is also a must
Markree Castle offers a relaxing and peaceful location to relax to after a days touring the locality.
