Cross and the surrounding area is an archaeological and historical paradise, that has attracted visitors for centuries.
Nearby Cong Abbey played host to scholars from all over Ireland, and was the final residence of the last High King of Ireland, Ruairi O'Connor.
Such is the richness of archaeological artifacts, that numerous stone circles, standing stones, cairns and churches can be explored in a couple of days.
Cross presents the ideal base to explore the spectacular Connemara landscape or to hire a boat for trips on the beautiful Corrib lake and explore its many islands and provide what is probably some of the best fishing in Europe.
