Set
in the shadow of the Benwiskin Mountain,
part of the Dartry Mountain range, with
the sea a short distance away, the Benwiskin
Centre invites you to come and experience
the beauty of North Sligo
The
Benwiskin Centre is owned and run by the
Ballintrillick Environmental Group. This
group was formed in 1992 to promote the
local area. Their aim is to entice people
to come and enjoy the surrounding countryside
including Ballintrillick itself and the
beautiful Gleniff Horseshoe Valley, an
area of unsurpassed beauty and tranquillity
in north Co. Sligo. Gleniff Horseshoe Valley
has a six mile circular walk/drive of spectacular
beauty with Truskmore and Ben Whiskin mountain
competing for your attention.
On
a clockwise tour of the valley you will
first encounter the site of a 19th century
barytes mill. Those with an interest in
industrial archaelogy and local heritage
will be fascinated by this site, which
also has a lovely woodland walk to take
you through native Irish trees and alongside
rushing mountain streams and waterfalls.
Further on you will pass the "T.V. road" a worthwhile walk that takes you to
the top of Truskmore which gives a stunning view of five counties.
